Andrology addresses male reproductive and sexual health. Assessment may include medical history, examination, semen analysis and selected hormonal tests. Treatment decisions take account of both partners when fertility is the concern.
Dr. Sreeharsha Harinatha offers individualized andrological care at Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road and Jayanagar, Bengaluru, with 17+ years of experience. Consultation includes discussion of alternatives, likely benefits, limitations and recovery.
A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the loose bag of skin that holds your testicles (scrotum), similar to a varicose vein in the leg. It is the most common reversible cause of male infertility, affecting sperm count, motility, and quality.
Microsurgical varicocelectomy uses magnification to identify veins while protecting arteries and lymphatic vessels. Repair may help selected men with a clinical varicocele and abnormal semen results; it is not required for every varicocele.
For men who have completed their families, a vasectomy is the most effective and permanent form of birth control. Gone are the days of large incisions and long recoveries.
We specialize in the No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV). Instead of a traditional incision, a tiny puncture is made to access the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm).
Note: A vasectomy does not affect your testosterone levels, sex drive, or the sensation of climax. It simply removes the “passengers” (sperm) from the “vehicle” (semen).
Life changes, and so do decisions. A Vaso-vasostomy is a microsurgical procedure performed to reverse a previous vasectomy.
Reconnecting the vas deferens requires extreme precision, as the inner channel of the tube is less than 0.5 mm in diameter. Dr. Sreeharsha employs a multi-layer microsurgical technique to ensure a watertight seal.
Surgical and non-surgical options are considered according to the diagnosis and your priorities. Fertility care may involve coordination with a reproductive medicine specialist.
Dr. Sreeharsha’s international training informs a personalized approach to care. The treatment plan is discussed with you before a decision is made.
At a glance
An andrologist is a urologist who specialises in male reproductive and sexual health. Dr Sreeharsha Harinatha treats male infertility, varicocele, erectile dysfunction and testicular problems, and performs vasectomy and vasectomy reversal (vaso-vasostomy) at Apollo Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road and Jayanagar, Bengaluru.
No. Repair may improve fertility in selected men, but both partners' health and other factors affect pregnancy. Follow-up semen tests help assess response.
Vasectomy should be chosen as permanent contraception. Reversal may be possible, but return of sperm and pregnancy are not guaranteed; assisted reproduction may be another option.
Continue contraception until follow-up semen testing has been reviewed and your clinician confirms clearance. Vasectomy is not immediately effective and does not prevent sexually transmitted infections.
The technique and recovery depend on the findings. Some men need a more complex reconstruction than vasovasostomy. Your surgeon will explain the plan.
Discomfort and swelling can occur. Use the prescribed pain relief and follow activity restrictions. Contact the team for fever, worsening swelling or significant pain.
See an andrologist if you have been unable to conceive after 12 months of trying, have an abnormal semen test, scrotal swelling or pain, erection or ejaculation problems, or symptoms of low testosterone.
In men with a clinically detectable varicocele and abnormal semen parameters, microsurgical varicocelectomy can improve sperm count and quality and may improve the chance of pregnancy. It is not usually recommended for small varicoceles with a normal semen analysis.
Yes. A vasectomy reversal (vaso-vasostomy) reconnects the tubes using microsurgery. Success is generally highest when the reversal is done within about 10 years of the vasectomy.
